International Summer School on Cultural Landscapes
at
Schloss Dyck

An exciting opportunity for The Institute of Landscape and Garden History to connect internationally with like-minded scholars has arisen through the European Garden Network headed by Schloss Dyck in partnership with the University of Düsseldorf.

Laura Mayer, a PhD student in the department of Archaeology & Anthropology at the University of Bristol, has been awarded a full scholarship to attend an International Summer School at Schloss Dyck, a moated castle in the Rhineland with a spectacular English landscape garden.

As a garden historian researching landscape architecture and patronage within the context of the cultural milieu of the eighteenth century, Laura will join 16 other participants from eight countries to take part in a series of lectures and excursions from 6 – 14 July. These will be directed by senior members of Hanover, Bonn, Berlin and Düsseldorf Universities. In addition she will lead workshops and present her doctoral research.

The Schloss Dyck Foundation, established as a Centre for Garden Art and Landscape Design, also promotes the study of historic gardens in conjunction with contemporary issues of conservation, and as such the Summer School is an important opportunity for engagement between the two Institutes.
